Hindustan motors
Hindustan Motors (HML) is an Indian automotive manufacturer based in Kolkata, West Bengal. It is a part of the Birla Technical Services conglomerate.
History:
* Founded in 1942 by B.M. Birla in collaboration with Morris Motors.
* Started manufacturing the Ambassador car in 1957, which became one of the most iconic cars in India.
* Was the largest car manufacturer in India until the 1980s, when it faced competition from Maruti Suzuki.
* Ceased production of the Ambassador in 2014 due to declining sales and rising costs.
Current Status:
* HML is currently involved in the manufacturing of commercial vehicles, spare parts, and steel products.
* It has a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors for the production of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in India.
Notable Models:
* Ambassador: A sedan car that was widely used as a taxi and government vehicle in India.
* Winner: A light commercial vehicle produced by HML.
