F&o eligible securities

In India, Futures & Options (F&O) contracts are traded on equity shares and indices that meet specific eligibility criteria set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). These criteria are dynamic and reviewed periodically to ensure liquidity, market depth, and to curb excessive speculation.

Key SEBI Eligibility Criteria for F&O Stocks (as of recent updates):

 * Top 500 Stocks: The stock must be chosen from among the top 500 listed companies in terms of average daily market capitalization and average daily traded value over the past six months on a rolling basis.

 * Median Quarter Sigma Order Size (MQSOS): The stock's MQSOS over the last six months must not be less than ₹75 lakh (revised from ₹25 lakh previously). This ensures sufficient liquidity and market depth.

 * Market Wide Position Limit (MWPL): The MWPL for the stock should not be less than ₹1,500 crore (revised from ₹500 crore previously). MWPL is either 20% of its free-float market cap or 30 times its average daily traded value over the preceding month, whichever is lower.

 * Average Daily Delivery Value (ADDV): The average daily delivery value in the cash market for the stock must be at least ₹35 crore (revised from ₹10 crore previously) over the last six months on a rolling basis.

 * Trading Participation: At least 15% of trading members active in all stock derivatives, or 200 trading members (whichever is lower), must have traded in any derivative contract on the stock being reviewed, on average, each month during the review period.

 * Average Daily Turnover & Open Interest: The stock should also have an average daily turnover (futures and options premium combined) of at least ₹75 crore and an average daily notional open interest (futures and options combined) of at least ₹500 crore during the review period.

Number of F&O Eligible Securities:

The exact number of F&O eligible securities changes. As of recent reports (late 2024 and early 2025), the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has been adding new stocks to its F&O segment. For instance, 8 new stocks were added to the F&O segment from May 30, 2025, including Bharat Dynamics, Kaynes Technology, Mankind Pharma, Mazagon Dock, RVNL, Fortis Healthcare, Piramal Pharma, and UNO Minda. Prior to this, 45 new stocks were added starting November 29, 2024.

While the total number fluctuates, sources often mention around 175-200 stocks that are typically eligible for F&O trading on Indian exchanges.

Where to Find the Latest List:

The most accurate and up-to-date list of F&O eligible securities is always available on the official websites of the stock exchanges, primarily the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in India. They regularly publish circulars and updated lists of securities admitted to and excluded from the F&O segment.
